Artist Harriet Hall has been inserting her own little touches into the Clore Art Studio at Studio Saturdays. She introduced maps of Paris, New York and Manchester printed onto acetate to see whether this material would provoke children to represent their own places, both real and fantasy. Harriet complemented the maps with coloured acetate filters inspired by her artistic practice as a photographer.
These new materials encouraged families to make their own landscapes from their own personal references. From a train which encircles a cityscape to a sky scene of sun moon and stars, families made art which reflected their own ideas and interests.
Harriet noted that some children created a picture from above, whilst others worked much more in 3D and that the families worked together role playing and acting as they created their scenes.
